A Conversation with the GM Mark Dicker Blayney Shire Council State Roads (Transport for NSW) Did you know Blayney Shire Council is not responsible for every road within the Blayney Shire? The NSW Government, under the authority of Transport for NSW are specifically responsible for; Mid-Western Highway (from Bathurst to Cowra), including Adelaide and Martha Streets in Blayney township, and Milthorpe Road (from Blayney to Mitchell Highway), including Church Street Blayney, Orange Road Blayney and Park Street Millthorpe) Council is not responsible for maintenance of these roads. Reporting of issues on a State Roads Council encourages road users to report maintenance issues on these roads directly to Transport for NSW. The easiest way to do this is by googling 'contact Transport NSW pothole and inputting the details. Mid-Western Highway (near CTLX and Carcoar Dam Road) Transport for NSW have recently advised essential maintenance works will be undertaken on a 200m section of the Mid-Western Highway near CTLX and Carcoar Dam Road. Works are proposed to commence this Monday 12 February, with working hours being: 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Works are expected to take four weeks to complete. Millthorpe Road - Temporary 60km/h Section Transport for NSW have recently advised, the section of Millthorpe Road (approximately 2kms Millthorpe side of Nestle) which currently has a temporary 60km/h speed zone, will have rectification works commence within the next month. At this stage Council has not been advised: specifically, when the works will commence or how long these works will take. Blayney Public Exhibition - Voluntary Planning Agreement and Classification of Land Following the January Ordinary Meeting, Council is seeking comment on the following document now on public exhibition: Voluntary Planning Agreement relating to the dedication of drainage and open space lands associated with Development Application 146/2021 being the Subdivision of Land into 56 Lots (52 Urban Residential Lots) at 1279 Millthorpe Road, Millthorpe. This document is available for viewing and downloading on Council's website www.blayney.nsw.gov.au/your-council/on-exhibtion Public notice is also given for the intention to classify proposed Lot 231 as Operational Land and proposed Lot 323 as Community Land. Council News Written submissions must be received prior to 5.00pm Friday 1 March 2024. Cemetery Pest Control Council pest control activities will commence next week in the Council Cemeteries. The public are urged to keep clear of the areas in the early morning and as always, if you are taking your dog to any Cemetery, remember to keep them under effective control and on a leash at all times. Surrounding landholders will be notified personally. Community Financial Assistance Program Round 2-2023/24 Applications for the second round under the 2023/24 Community Financial Assistance Program are open. Roadside Weed Spraying Did you know, Blayney Shire Council is a member of Central Tablelands Weeds Authority (CTWA)? Local community organisations / individuals are invited to submit an application by 15 March 2024. Applications lodged before 8 March 2024 Contact Us CTWA is a County Council which is a single purpose local government authority, established by the Governor under Section 387 of the Local Government Act 1993, as the control authority for biosecurity weed threats in the areas of: Bathurst Regional Council, Blayney Shire Council, Lithgow City Council and Oberon Council. In its 2023/24 Operational Plan (annual budget) Council allocated approximately $126,000 to CTWA (a 28% increase) as Council sought to control priority weeds, given the last 2 years have provided optimum conditions for weed growth. This season, CTWA have already completed spraying of 124kms of roadside in the Blayney Shire (220kms is forecast to be completed). CTWA will continue to undertake roadside spraying within the Blayney Shire over hte coming weeks, specifically; Beneree area, Mid-Western Highway (Blayney to Bathurst) then Browns Creek/Carcoar area. Please be aware that roadside spraying is continuing to be undertaken and please slow down if you come across roadside spraying being undertaken. as the vehicles will be moving slowly and workers will be close by. will be reviewed and applicants will be contacted in the event of any errors or omissions in applications. There are four categories of financial assistance: Recurrent financial assistance Non-recurrent financial assistance (Up to $5,000 and more in exceptional cases) Sporting related financial assistance Flagship annual community project (Up to $25,000 for a major project) Applicants are required to obtain a copy of the guidelines and complete the application form. Council will not consider requests for financial support (cash or in-kind) outside of this program. Guidelines and application forms are available from Council's website www.blayney.nsw.gov.au or from Council's office. Tourism Development Program Council has a Tourism Development Program which provides support to both not-for-profit entities and local businesses to host events, produce marketing projects and create tourist attractions aimed to promote and grow the visitor economy in the Blayney Shire. $10,000 of funding has been allocated to the program for the 2023/24 financial year with applications now open until all funds are expended.
