A Conversation with the GM Mark Dicker Blayney Shire Council National Volunteer Week National Volunteer Week (20th-26th May) is Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteering. This special campaign is an opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers in our community and invites people not currently volunteering to give it a go. National Volunteer Week 2024 is a celebration of the diverse passions and talents everyone brings to volunteering. Personally, I would like to say a huge thank you to all our community members who volunteer (including many of which volunteer for multiple groups). According to the latest census, 18% of Blayney Shire residents (over 15 years of age) volunteer, compared to the NSW state average of 13%. This year's National Volunteer Week theme is 'Something for Everyone" highlighting that there's a place for everyone in the world of volunteering. We invite everyone to explore the vast array of opportunities. Whether you're drawn to environmental causes, community welfare, education, sport or beyond, there's a place where your unique skills and interests can flourish. Community Group Directory To help promote the diversity and number of community groups within our Shire, Council is launching a Community Group Directory to help residents find similar interest groups as well as volunteering opportunities. In our Shire, there would be over 70 different groups who rely on volunteers. If you have thought about volunteering but haven't been sure what opportunities there are in our area, this directory should help give you some ideas of where you can get involved. If you run a community group, please head to our website www.blayney. nsw.gov.au or call Council on 6368 2104 to register your group details. The directory is aiming to cover everything from sporting groups to event organisers, emergency services, to arts and crafts groups. museums and more.
