The next Local Government Election will be held for all NSW Councils on Saturday 14 September 2024 (now less than 6 months away). NSW Electoral commission information The election is conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission. Blayney Shire Council has joined together with our neighbouring Councils (Orange and Cabonne) to provide candidate information sessions which will be facilitated by Local Government NSW. Upcoming online information session The first information session will be held online; 5.30pm, Monday, 25 March 2024. If you are interested in attending, please contact Council on 6368 2104 or email council@blayney.nsw.gov.au so the event link can be provided once it is confirmed by LGNSW. Our website and social media pages will also advertise the registration link once confirmed. Who will be the facilitator of the Local Government NSW sessions? The online session will be facilitated by Local Government NSW Presenter Dr Jenny Dowell OAM. Jenny has previously held the role as a Lismore Councillor for 12 years and was the Mayor of Lismore between 2008 and 2016. Jenny is also a Mayors' Mentors for Local Government NSW. Jenny brings a wealth of knowledge to the candidate briefings for NSW councils. Registrations are currently open and will be closing on Wednesday 3 April, so you've got ample time to strategize! There are three exciting categories to participate inc Hay Bale Art Challenge: Showcase your talent by crafting sculptures primarily from hay, complemented with a mix of artistic materials like paint, cardboard. fabric, wood, and upcycled items. Previous entries have spanned from grand artworks with multiple hay bales to simpler creations using just one or two bales. Farm Art Challenge: Let your imagination run wild as you create sculptures or artworks using any farm-related resources other than hay bales. Think corrugated iron, wire, wood, old machinery, and more. The possibilities are endless! Scarecrow Challenge: Put together your most imaginative scarecrow or a set of themed scarecrows, tailor-made for urban dwellers with limited space. This year there is a prize for the best individual scarecrow and the best group of themed scarecrows! Expressions of Interest Open for Additional Pre-Approved Road Names Have you wondered how street names are chosen for new developments? Generally, when a road name is required, the developer picks from a list of pre-approved names which is an appendix to Councils; Road, Pathway and Bridge Naming Policy. This topic is meaningful and a sensitive issue for our shire (as it usually involves and includes nomination and consideration of those who have passed).
